In the 1980’s The Tawachi Family had established a successful small chain of Donair/Gyro restaurants . Based on a recipe developed by Tawachi Senior, the restaurant’s Donair menu drew record crowds to indulge in the aromatic, flavorful Mediterranean Donair. The popularity of the recipe brought the competitors to the back door of the restaurants to purchase the Donair cones, to be sold in their restaurants. In the early 1990’s, Athena Donair was created by three of the Tawachi brothers . A facility, producing Donair/Gyro cones for the restaurant and institutional market place. With great success and growth, the company was relocated to a new home with a much larger capacity for production and storage of finished products. As the business Architect of Athena original set up, Allan Tawachi decided to establish a sister company to Athena in Ontario Canada, to complete the vision of providing healthy and tasteful gourmet Mediterranean meat products to complement and expand the original line of Athena, Phoenicia Gourmet Foods.Today Finicia products are being produced in partnership in a HACCP approved facility with a level 2 certified SQF designation insuring excellence in food safety and manufacturing procedures.
